Dreams & Memory
Dreams & Memory is a series of large scale watercolor paintings based on a pilgrimage to Japan in 2017. This month long journey through seven very different cities fostered a connection and respect to the animistic culture of Japan. The inspiration from their culture and heritage is reflected in the paintings. The watercolors are of Japanese landscapes, but with an intentional warped perspective. Each piece is twisted and appears to pull around the viewer; like a dream or memory. This series also explores how our memories changes each time they are remembered, and asks the question:
“Are memories any more reliable than our dreams”.
7 Planets
The Seven Planets collection is an homage to the seven celestial bodies in traditional astrology, and the alchemical deity associated with each.
Each of the seven 45” x 45” watercolor painting depicts a classical representation of a god/goddess placed within a nebula. Each piece has hidden symbols relating to the alchemical correspondances of each planet throughout.
In addition to watercolor, elements of each piece were created using Silver Point etching with real silver, and also gold and silver leafed elements. The pieces will tarnish over time as they age.
